Air pollution causes 128,000 annual deaths in Pakistan

The air pollution situation in Pakistan is critically alarming, with approximately 128,000 people losing their lives every year due to its effects. Experts say that the growing impact of air pollution, particularly in major cities, is having serious consequences on public health. If immediate measures are not taken, the number of deaths could increase further.
Additionally, the effects of climate change have intensified in the country. Between September 15 and January 15, Pakistan saw a 40% reduction in rainfall, which is negatively affecting agriculture, water supply, and the ecosystem. These climate changes are making Pakistan more vulnerable to natural disasters and other environmental hazards.
Experts emphasize that Pakistan needs an annual investment of $40 billion to tackle climate change and mitigate the effects of air pollution. This investment is not only crucial for environmental restoration but also for protecting public health and supporting the country’s economic development.
